Anonymous 18th-century Dutch school engraver "La Tonne de Heidelberg" (Heidelberg's big barrel) Original burin engraving from an eighteenth-century edition of Maximilien Misson's work "Voyage en Italie. Avec un memoire contenant des avis utiles à ces qui voudront faire le meme voyage ... ”probably from the 1722 one printed in Utrecht by van de Water and van Poolsum. Nice copy on a portion of thin laid paper without watermark, complete with the imprint of the slab and with small margins, with the usual binding folds but overall in excellent condition. Historical representation of the huge barrel present from the second half of the 17th century in the castle of Heidelberg, built to contain the large quantity of wine received as a tax; monumental container embellished with bas-reliefs representing the apotheosis of Bacchus, over time it became a great attraction for visitors, at its top, reached by a staircase, a platform was used used for banquets and dancing parties; the capacity of these barrels which the French called "tonneaux monstres" also reached 195,000 liters.
